In search of a job for months/years with efforts becoming futile?
Losing a loved one or the breadwinner of a family?
Barren and seeing mothers carry their babies with some practising family planning  while you struggle to even have one to
Sitting for examinations an
d failing?
That which leads to depression can come/ensue in any form
Sometimes we could become unaware of how we fill our heart with much thoughts, worries which could serve as a burden or deteriorate our health.

Frequent headaches, unrest, lack of response to the ongoing events/incidences emit when depression set in.

Bad will it be, when we fail to realise that the happiness we desire can only come from us for we are the best help to ourselves.
Depression in today's society has become so crucial, occupying a large space not meant for it. A lady, walking on the road can be so lost in thoughts, ignoring the honk of a car due to pains felt and the gruesome events going on in her life. Depression has caused us to lose lives to accidents, bad health  resulting to death.

The word "depression kills" is no fallacy but true and valid.

So many people have forgotten the saying -  there is a silver lining in a dark cloud " . If today seem difficult, tomorrow will get better.

Do you know what Oxford calls depression?

A period of unhappiness or low morale which last longer than several weeks and may include ideation of Self-inflicted injury or suicide! Suicide? Even suicidal attempts or suicide is caused by depression yet a man who lose his life by taking it himself has lost the opportunities meant for him in life. Our eyes are blind to the blessings packaged in the future for our lives.

How then can depression be tackled?
We all have things we do that lift our spirits even when down

  •    Read a book - Writers are blessings to the world. There are several write ups, journals and reading apps to go through and meditate on. Try reading motivational stories and religious devotionals and see how your worries fade at a flash

  •    Try talking to a friend - a shared problem is half-sloved they say. Most times, when we bare the ears of our closed ones to the pains we feel and our worries, we become strengthened at a point . Relating our troubles to those we trust and who would be there for us just as there were before is just like confiding in ourselves. Talk to a friend today!

  • Take a walk - Saunter idly around, let the wind and breeze blow off your hair, watch the trees sway, the heaps of clouds in the air, the bright sun. Nature heals too.

  •  Go out to dates or vacation - giving ourselves a treat is no bad. Self - love is no crime also. We can take ourselves to dates, that best restaurant, get an ice - cream.. Pamper yourself just as you would to a baby and 2 year old child.

The earlier we remember that depression kills, less effective will it be. We go through things we don't wish to . Yet we have the  choice to remain miserable or happy.
Take a break, read a book, walk and observe nature, give yourself a treat, talk to a friend, listen to music - dance if possible (I realise dancing relieves the soul,  I did one day and at a flash I forgot my worries and pains). Always remember that you are in control of your happiness as long as you choose to either let depression have its way or not.
